The General Court of a fourth governorate in the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia sentenced a school leader to ten days in prison, in a final ruling after his approval by the Appeals Court, on the grounds of insulting and threatening a teacher, according to the local newspaper, Sabq.

The teacher involved in the case filed a complaint in March of 2020, accusing the school leader (the accused) of spitting on him and pulling his beard inside a room in the same school and threatening him.

The General Court of Rabigh had received a complaint that was referred from the Public Prosecution by the complainant teacher, who was working in a school in the governorate at the time, and stated in his complaint that the school leader in which he works, spit on him and pulled his beard after being closed by one rooms, as he threatened him the next day.

The court then sentenced the school leader to apologize; While the aggrieved teacher objected and filed an objection to the apology ruling and overturned it, the court sentenced the school leader (the defendant) to ten days in prison.

For his part, the aggrieved teacher called on the Ministry of Education to inflict the punishment prescribed by law for Article 9 of the Code of Employment Conduct, which stipulates not to do any act that violates the values, customs or norms of society.

According to Saudi law, among the punishment for assaulting educational institutions and their employees, the penalty for physical assault on education workers is a criminal offense and the penalty may reach 10 years imprisonment or a fine of up to one million riyals or both, and the aggressor employee may result in administrative penalties such as dismissal by force of the system. The Ministry of Education also revealed at the end of last August that a penalty of suspension from studies awaits male and female students if they photograph teachers without their knowledge.

She explained that the punishment extends for a month, and the punished student can also be assigned to perform voluntary social work after the approval of his guardian under the supervision of the Education Department, as a form of discipline.

The Ministry of Education also issued a decision to temporarily ban the use of the smartphone by students inside the school, after it allowed it at the beginning of the school year, according to a previous statement by the ministry.
