League Plus – Real Madrid player David Alaba confirmed that he refuses to compare him with former captain Sergio Ramos.
Alaba moved to Real Madrid during the last summer transfer period, in a free transfer deal, after the expiry of his contract with Bayern Munich.
The Austrian said in an interview with the German newspaper “Bild”: “I wanted to wear my previous number 27 that I wore with Bayern Munich, but in the Spanish League it is not allowed, so Real Madrid officials got me the number 4 shirt.”
He added: “Ramos is an absolute legend for the team, his level on the field and his personality abroad, a role model, he was a true leader.”
He continued, “But I am Alaba and I do not want to be compared to others, and I prefer writing my own story with the team.”
Alaba confirmed that he never intended to provoke Bayern Munich or its fans by kissing the Real Madrid logo while introducing him as a new player.
He added: “For me it was a very exciting day, and I was very happy to come to Real Madrid and I was expressing that, I did not mean to provoke anyone at Bayern Munich, because I spent wonderful years there and I will always respect this club forever.”
Alaba continued: “I managed to develop as a person and as a player in Bayern. The fans have always supported me and I will never forget them. I will respect the club and love it always. That will not change anything.”
