Ministry of educationThe Ministry of Education intends to implement the international study, to measure the progress of reading in the world “PIRLS” during the current academic year, by implementing the application of the international test “PIRLS” for fifth grade students during the period from 8 to 17 November.

The Ministry explained that the test will be performed in attendance in schools with the application of precautionary measures, indicating that it aims behind the decision to measure the levels of reading comprehension of male and female students, and to compare the results with the level of global performance among the countries participating in the tests supervised by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA).

The decision also aims to build the process of developing study plans according to scientific foundations and international standards, improving the results of the Kingdom’s male and female students in international tests, measuring students’ levels and comparing results between participating countries, in support of policies, projects and programs that contribute to raising the level of the Kingdom’s results in international indicators, and achieving The goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.

It is noteworthy that the Kingdom participates in this test for the third round of tests in a row, after the 2011 and 2016 sessions, which were applied to fourth grade students.

The Ministry seeks to improve students’ performance in international tests, by gradually harmonizing the curricula with the requirements of these tests, focusing on applications and activities that target higher-order thinking skills, redistributing study plans, as well as professional development for teachers by providing and constantly updating training packages, and measuring And evaluation by setting indicators and targets at the level of schools, offices and educational administrations, through the results of tests similar to international and achievement tests on a regular basis.
