Hunter’s guns led to her disappearance

Years ago, the wilds of the northern border region were teeming with many wild animals that roamed the length and breadth of its lands and saw their huge numbers due to the density of their vegetation cover, but the guns of hunters caused their extinction.

The historical researcher, Matar bin Ayed Al-Anzi, told “Previously” that the most prominent of these extinct animals from the region is the Arabian Oryx, noting that its last footprints were spotted in the Nafud desert in 1954 AD.

As for the “Arabian ostrich”, it disappeared from the area in the year 1914 AD, and was named after its locations “the stoning of the ostriches” and “the ostrich of the ostriches”.

He added: “Al-Wa’al was also spread in the wilds of Al-Hammad, in the west of the region, and it was named Umm Wa’al Mountain, on which the Waad Al-Shamal mining city in Turaif was built.”

And the “Afri antelope” was present in the area, and the places where it coexisted was called the “Afria” area, which is located in Arar.

Al-Enezi concluded by saying: The deserts of the northern border region were witnessing a diversity of terrain and plants, which made them an attractive environment for these wild creatures, but irregular fishing was the reason for their demise from the region.
