Deauville (France): Singer Jane Birkin is “in good shape,” her daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg, confirmed at the Deauville American Film Festival in northern France, where she is chairing the jury.
Charlotte, daughter of Jane Birkin and singer Serge Gansburg, said: “I have a message from my mother and I spoke to her a short time ago and I know people are worried about her. She is doing well.”
“I asked her if she wanted me to say something specific. And she replied, ‘It’s all right’.”
Jane Birkin’s agent revealed on Tuesday that the 74-year-old singer suffered a “minor stroke” last week, and decided to cancel all of her commitments until the end of the week.
Charlotte Gansburg presented a biographical documentary on her mother entitled “Jane Bar Charlotte” during the Deauville Festival, which continues until Sunday.
Previously presented at Cannes, this work explores Jane Birkin’s daily life and fondness for dogs while touching on painful issues such as absence and illness.
Jane Birkin, born in London on December 14, 1946, is one of the most famous British artists in France, and her name remains associated with Gansburg and his songs in the sixties and seventies.
