French-Lebanese Audrey Diwan wins the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival

French-Lebanese director Audrey Diwan, 41, won this evening (Saturday) the Golden Lion award at the Venice (Venice) Film Festival for her film “Levenman” (“Happing” or “The Event”), which tells the story of a woman who secretly miscarries. In France, as reported by Agence France-Presse.
This work, adapted from the autobiography of the same title by novelist Anne Ernault, is set during the 1960s before abortion was legalized in France, and shows the career of a young pregnant student played by Franco-Romanian Annamaria Vartolomé.
The jury prize was won by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, for “The Hand of God”, a deeply personal film about the loss of his parents as a teenager, according to Reuters news agency.
New Zealander Jane Campion won the Silver Lion for Best Director for “The Power of a Dog”, which revolves around tragic events in a border region in the 1920s.
