Banaya won the second race in a row after standing up to a late comeback from Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, the overall leader in the championship. At one point, Panyaia, who had started from pole, was 2.7sec ahead, before Quartararo cut the difference in the final laps of the race to 0.2sec.
Rookie Inia Bastianini, the Avintia Ducati racer, achieved an outstanding performance after starting from 12th place, to take third place at the end of the race and ensure access to the podium, while Spaniard Marc Marquez, Repsol Honda’s driver, finished fourth.
Quartararo, who was initially struggling with the speed of the Ducati duo of Banaya and Jack Miller, passed Australian Miller and moved up to second with 14 laps left. But Quartararo failed to overtake rival Banaya, who also won the Aragon race last week. Miller slipped and finished fifth.
