Abdel Sattar Sabri, the former Egyptian and Benfica national team star, revealed that he received a call from the Portuguese Jose Mourinho, the coach of the Italian Roma team, to be part of the technical staff, pointing out that he is waiting for the official offer and will go directly.

Sabry confirmed in television statements that he communicates with Mourinho in Portuguese and will learn Italian, pointing out that he was going with “Special One” to Tottenham Hotspur, but he left the team, and then turned to coach Roma.

He continued: “Mourinho was my coach at Benfica, and his value is great to me. He is a great coach and I benefited a lot from him. We kept in touch and we met when he came to Egypt during the African Cup of Nations and I told him I wanted to work with him and he welcomed that.”

Sabry is considered one of the most skilled Egyptian football players throughout history, and even has visits and tours with the national team, as well as a very distinguished professional career between Greece and Portugal, and the “sweater”, as his colleagues nicknamed him, was known to be not traditional and would not leave football without making a clear imprint. He will be remembered by everyone in the future.

Abdel Sattar Sabry started his journey in the Gezira Youth Center and then moved to the Arab Contractors, but his real start with the Egyptian masses was with the national team in the African Championship in 1995, a tournament at which the Egyptian team succeeded in achieving the gold medal at the expense of Zimbabwe in the final match with a score of 3- 2, and led his former club, the Arab Contractors, to win the Egypt Cup in 1995 to qualify to participate in the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1996, a tournament that the team won its title after a long absence from the mountain wolves since 1983.

The biggest shift in Abdel Sattar Sabry’s history came in 1998 when he participated with the Egyptian national team in the African Nations Cup in Burkina Faso under the technical leadership of General Mahmoud El-Gohary, and managed with the rest of his teammates, led by Hazem Imam, Hossam Hassan, Ahmed Hassan, Hani Ramzy, Nader El-Sayed and others, To achieve the title, which was absent from Egypt since the 1986 championship, and then moved to the professional journey in Europe in the Austrian club Tyrol, and from there to the Greek team PAOK Thessaloniki and then Benfica of Portugal under the leadership of Jose Mourinho, and the “jacket” was the card on which the jewel mainly relied..

Abdul Sattar’s goal in the Portuguese derby is the biggest between Benfica and Sporting Lisbon is the most prominent in the player’s history, and why not when you know that this goal was the one who decided the match at the time in the last seconds, and even more than that, it came in the Lisbon goal when the Danish giant Peter Schmeichel was a goalkeeper for him.

Abdel-Sattar Sabry was around the corner from moving to Al-Ahly instead of the Vanguards of the Army at the beginning of the 2004-2005 season, but he joined the Vanguards and ended his football career with them, and went to training and assumed the role of general coach for the Military Production Club and the first national team during Shawki Gharib’s mandate.
