“Atyaf” heroes attend its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival, today, Wednesday, August 11, 2021 10:50 pm

In the presence of its makers and its heroes, the Tunisian film “Atyaf” directed by Mehdi Hamili is witnessing its world premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, as it competes for six prizes in the Filmmakers of the Present competition. The first is directed by Mahdi Hemili, and the film’s heroes are Afaf Ben Mahmoud, Zaza, and Sarah Hanachi. Producer Moufida Fadela and sound engineer Ayman Al-Obaidi will also attend. Recently, the official poster for the movie was revealed.
The media screening will take place on Wednesday 11 August at 7 pm in the Teatro Kursaal, and the first public screening will take place on Thursday 12 August at 6 pm at PalaCinema 1, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and heroes, and repeats the following day Friday at 5 pm in La Sala, And Saturday 1:30 p.m. at PalaCinema Sala 2 and PalaCinema Leopard club.
The Filmmakers of the Present Competition is one of the festival’s most important competitions and is dedicated to emerging filmmakers from all over the world, focusing on their first productions. It is witnessing the presentation of 15 films for the first time globally, and the participating films vary between documentaries and fiction, as they compete for the following awards: The Golden Cheetah for Best Film, Best New Director, Special Jury Award, Swatch Award for Best Debut, Cheetah Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress.
The Locarno Film Festival is one of the world’s oldest film festivals. It was founded in 1946. It takes place annually in August for 11 days in the Swiss city of Locarno, where thousands of lovers and workers in the film industry meet.
The film revolves around Amal, who works in a factory in Tunisia. She lives with her drunken husband Taher, a former local football player, and their only son Moamen, a talented goalkeeper. The mother meets Emad, who claims to help Momen in his career. But the wealthy businessman takes advantage of the situation and assaults her, and the police arrest them.
Atyaf was written and directed by Mehdi Hemili, and starring Tunisian stars, including Afaf Ben Mahmoud, Ihab Bouyahia, Zaza, Sarah Hanachi and Salim Bakkar. The soundtrack was composed by Amine Bouhafa, and MAD Solutions is responsible for distributing the film in the Arab world.
