Zamalek took a giant step towards crowning the Egyptian Football League title, the long-awaited dream, by defeating its guest, Wadi Degla (1-0), yesterday, Tuesday, for the 31st week of the competition.
Zamalek is only two steps away from regaining its lost title 6 years ago and ascending the throne of the Egyptian League again, after its rival, Al-Ahly, the defending champion, received a new blow in its chances of retaining the title for a new season after falling into the trap of a negative tie with its host, Tala’a El-Jaish.
The victory raised Zamalek’s balance to 73 points at the top of the Egyptian league table, 4 points ahead of Al-Ahly, 3 rounds before the end.
Zamalek has 3 matches against Ceramica Cleopatra in the 32nd round of the league next Friday, then it will play against El Entag El Harby next Tuesday in the 33rd round, and it will face Al-Ahly Bank in the last round on the 27th of August.
While Al-Ahly also has 3 matches against Al-Masry Al-Portsaidi in the 32nd round next Friday, then it will be a guest on El-Gouna next Tuesday in the penultimate round, then it will host Aswan on the 27th of this month.
Zamalek needs to achieve two wins from its next three meetings to officially crown the title, regardless of Al-Ahly’s results.
Zamalek can officially crown the Egyptian League in its next match against Ceramica Cleopatra, scheduled for next Friday, provided that it wins the match and Al-Ahly loses against Al-Masry Al-Port Said on the same day.
According to that scenario, Zamalek’s balance will rise to 76 points, 7 points ahead of Al-Ahly, whose balance will freeze at 69 points, to officially crown the Whites.
The second date in which Zamalek can be crowned is its second match against El Entag El Harby on August 24, if it wins the match and before that, the Ceramica Cleopatra match, to maintain a difference of at least 4 points with Al-Ahly before a round of the end.
Zamalek also has another chance to win the title in that match (El Entag El Harby) if a draw, if Al-Ahly stumbles by a loss or a draw in one of its next two matches.
As for the third date for the official coronation of Zamalek, it is its match against the National Bank, in the last rounds of the Egyptian League, if it stumbled by a tie or loss in one of its matches in the next two rounds and won the other, provided that he won the last match.
On the other hand, Al-Ahly needs to win its next three matches to reach 78 points, with Zamalek stumbling with two draws from the last 3 rounds, or losing one match and drawing in another.
Al-Ahly drew in one match and won two matches, which will make the Red team need to lose Zamalek at least in two matches to ensure that Al-Ahly crowned with the advantage of direct confrontations.
