The Australian warning came in a statement, which read: “The situation in Afghanistan remains extremely dangerous. Be aware of the potential for violence and security threats with large crowds. There is a persistent and severe threat of terrorist attacks. Do not travel to Kabul Hamid Karzai International Airport.”
Australia called on its nationals to avoid the airport area, saying in the statement: “If you are in the airport area, move to a safe place and wait for further advice.”
Last week, the United States and the United Kingdom issued warnings to their citizens to leave Afghanistan immediately, due to the deteriorating security situation. Before that, France had already asked its citizens to leave the country.
It is reported that US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said that there are approximately 1,500 people who may be Americans are still in Afghanistan, pointing out that when the evacuations began, there were up to 6,000 Americans in the country who wanted to leave.
