Wall Street closes lower ahead of earnings reports from technology companies

Wall Street closed lower on Tuesday, led by losses for the Nasdaq index, as investors exercised caution ahead of the release of quarterly earnings reports from major technology and Internet companies after the market closed.
Caution is also growing as investors await the outcome of the Federal Reserve’s meeting on Wednesday for signs of when the US central bank may start curbing its massive stimulus programme.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the trading session down 101.19 points, or 0.29 percent, to 35043.12 points, while the benchmark Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 20.84 points, or 0.47 percent, to close at 4401.46 points.
The Nasdaq Composite Index closed down 180.14 points, or 1.21 percent, to 14,660.58 points, according to Reuters.
