Social media users are circulating that Saudi athlete Hussain Alireza finally finished by an hour and a half in the men’s single rowing competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but this claim is not true.

Although Reda finally finished in his group, the difference was only 50 seconds from the first place holder.

The post, circulating on social media, includes a photo from a rowing competition with a table of results at the bottom.

The participants of the photo said that “Saudi Ali Reda finally finished in the men’s rowing competition at the Tokyo Olympics, an hour and a half ahead of the rest of the contestants.”

However, the AFP fact-finding service denied this claim with facts and figures.

She said that Saudi Hussain Ali Reda finished fifth in his group with 7:54:18 minutes, 50 seconds ahead of the group leader.

This can be confirmed through the official website of the Tokyo Olympics, which displays the results of the various competitions.
