Dr. Abdulaziz Al Muhairi, Director General of the Sharjah Health Authority and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Expansion Program for Healthy Cities in the Emirate of Sharjah confirmed that the Emirate’s file receives great support from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and direct attention from the Executive Council, which established a committee Expanding the system of healthy cities that operate in accordance with the vision and directives of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah to preserve the gains achieved after Sharjah was crowned in 2015 with the title of the first healthy city in the Middle East and North Africa.

This came during the visit of the World Health Organization delegation, which began the day before yesterday, to assess the Sharjah file within the Healthy Cities Program, and through it, residents will be briefed on the various files and axes to ensure the achievement of the set goals, which urge continuing to work to spread the culture of healthy cities and achieve the highest levels of quality of life for the residents of the Emirate of Sharjah. In addition to participating and representing the emirate in various international health conferences and symposia.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al Muhairi said that the Executive Committee of the program had previously launched the “Sharjah is a healthy city” document as an application tool to confirm the institutions’ adoption of the nine standards for healthy cities, which were accepted and cooperated by all institutions and authorities in the emirate. The most prominent health experiences and benefit from experiences in the Arab Gulf countries were reviewed. In order to enhance the file presented and improve the health aspects in the community.

The delegation of the World Health Organization praised the file “Sharjah is a healthy city” in terms of the continuous development of the facilities, facilities and procedures applied, explaining that Sharjah has become a role model and a reference for other cities that are subject to evaluation, being the first city in the Middle East and North Africa that succeeded in meeting the special conditions and standards. In the programme, the visiting delegation stressed the importance of everyone working on this file to be proud of what it contains and what has actually been achieved on the ground, in addition to the great support that Sharjah enjoys from the highest levels to maintain its position as a healthy city.
