Court aims to integrate religious Jews into education

The Israeli Supreme Court has ruled that the segregation of students of the sexes in some universities is legal as a way to help integrate ultra-Orthodox Jews into the education and labor market, Russia Today reported.

Gilad Malach of the Israel Democracy Institute considered the ruling a step in the right direction.

Malach pointed out that there are about 14,000 Haredi students in Israeli universities today, while their number was close to 1,000 20 years ago.

The Haredim represent about 12 percent of Israel’s population of nine million.
