The “Jerusalem Post” newspaper quoted the Israeli Ministry of Health on Tuesday morning that about 2,112 people had tested positive for the coronavirus during the past 24 hours.
The number was described as the highest daily recorded since last March, and an increase of about 700 infections since Sunday, when 1,414 tests yielded positive results.
It was reported that out of 90,513 tests, 2.32% recorded positive results.
Currently, approximately 138 people in Israel are seriously ill, while 26 are on ventilators, and the number of people who have died since the beginning of the epidemic has reached 6,461 people.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States is recommending that non-vaccinated tourists avoid visiting Israel amid a surge in coronavirus infections.
The newspaper quoted Walla News as saying that the increase in infections prompted the classification of six Israeli residential areas, including several neighborhoods in Netanya, and one Israeli air base, as red under the light signal system for the Corona virus.
