And the American “CNN” website stated that while the Indians struggle to live on a few dollars a day due to the repercussions of Corona, the rich in the country have become richer and more influential.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, the total fortunes of India’s rich have increased by tens of billions of dollars over the past year.
The index revealed that the fortune of the Indian Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the “Reliance Industries” group, rose to more than 80 billion dollars, an increase of about 15 billion dollars over last year.
And “Bloomberg” indicated that Ambani is the richest person in India, and he is ranked 12th among the world’s richest people.
He is followed by Gautam Adani, founder of the “Adani” group, whose fortune has now risen to $55 billion, an increase of about $13 billion in the same period last year.
Azim Premji, founder of Wipro Limited, has a fortune of about $32 billion. It is ranked 44th in the world, according to the Bloomberg rankings.
It is noteworthy that India suffered a “rare recession” last year, after a closure that lasted nearly four months to limit the spread of “Covid-19”.
At a time when the economies of countries began to recover little by little this year, unemployment figures in India approached record levels in May after the massive rise in Corona cases.
Rakesh Kochhar, chief researcher at the Pew Research Center, said last March: “It is estimated that the number of poor in India (with an income of two dollars or less per day) has increased by 75 million due to the Covid-19 recession.” It is believed that this increase increased further after the second Corona wave and its economic repercussions.
