Mahmoud Abdel Razek “Shikabala”, captain of Zamalek, broke his silence after the crisis that occurred in the wake of Al-Ahly’s crowning of the African Champions League title.
Al-Ahly won the African Champions League title for the tenth time in its history, and the second in succession, at the expense of the South African Kaizer Chiefs, 3-0 in the final, which was held, on Saturday evening, at the “Mohammed V” stadium in Morocco.
Immediately after winning the title, the committee in charge of managing the Zamalek club congratulated Al-Ahly’s board of directors, in a statement published by the club’s account on the social networking site “Twitter”.
However, several crises occurred after this statement, as some Al-Ahly fans in the vicinity of the club directed insults at Zamalek and its leader Shikabala, as well as mocking the official account of the Red Castle channel from congratulating Zamalek.
Despite the calm atmosphere between the two clubs, which was explained by the official statement of Al-Ahly, Shikabala decided to respond in his own way, as he published a picture of him greeting the fans of Zamalek, through his personal account on the social networking site “Twitter”.
Hours after these events, Zamalek club announced in an official statement that Shikabala had been injured during the team’s training, Sunday evening.
Mohamed Osama, head of the Zamalek medical apparatus, said: “The duo Shikabala and Mohamed Ashraf Roqa did not complete the training due to injury.”
He added, “Shikabala felt pain in the front muscle and underwent therapeutic exercises, while Roqa was complaining of pain in the tendon of the kneecap.”
Zamalek is preparing to face Ghazl El-Mahalla on August 3 in the 28th round of the Egyptian League, knowing that it leads the standings with 61 points, 10 points ahead of Al-Ahly, the runner-up.
