Federer raises millions of dollars for his charity from the sale of equipment


Christie’s auction house in London announced today (Thursday) that Swiss tennis player Roger Federer has raised millions of dollars for his charity by selling his old equipment, according to the German news agency.

The house stated that the auction was held on June 23 and then online, raising three million, 392 thousand and 875 pounds (four million 689 thousand and 316 dollars), as the equipment sold included the tennis racket from the 2007 Wimbledon final against Rafael Nadal and the shoes he wore. When he won his only French Open title in 2009.

The Federer Foundation supports educational projects for disadvantaged children in Africa and his country of Switzerland.

Federer, 39, won 20 titles in the four Grand Slam tournaments, jointly with Nadal and Novak Djokovic, but he was eliminated from the last edition of Wimbledon from the quarter-finals and withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics due to knee problems.
