Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that his country is working closely and continuously for the return of refugees, through several steps, including the rehabilitation of infrastructure and the acceleration of reconciliations.
During his meeting with a Russian delegation headed by Alexander Lavrentiev, the special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Assad discussed “joint efforts and bilateral cooperation between Syria and Russia on the issue of the return of Syrian refugees who were forced by terrorist crimes to leave their country.”
The Syrian presidency said that the two sides affirmed their “satisfaction with the progress that is taking place in this field as a result of joint efforts,” and noted the joint meeting to follow up on the work of the international conference on the return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons held in Damascus.
Al-Assad explained that Syria is working to return the refugees by “rehabilitating the infrastructure destroyed by terrorism, restoring security and stability to the liberated areas, and by accelerating the reconciliation process to ensure the safe return of Syrian refugees and displaced persons to their villages and towns.”
Al-Assad thanked “the Russian leadership for the humanitarian and medical aid and doses of the Corona virus vaccine that were recently provided to Syria, praising at the same time the great assistance provided by the Russian Federation to the Syrian people in various fields, including its efforts to help return Syrian refugees to their land.” .
The Syrian presidency stated that Lavrentiev expressed his confidence that the Syrian and Russian sides will reach tangible results in this context “in view of the effective steps and measures taken by the Syrian government to provide the appropriate conditions and suitable grounds for the return of Syrian refugees.”
Lavrentiev indicated his country’s readiness to continue working with Syria to overcome the difficulties and obstacles that could hinder this process.
