The Director General of the Electricity Company of Zahle, Asaad Nakad, warned that we are going to zero electricity.
The Director General of the Electricity Company of Zahle, Asaad Nakad, said that we are going to zero electricity, “Will we have diesel after a month, two or three months?” He doubted the possibility of diesel fuel being available in the next stage, even at the market price. He said, “After the subsidy is lifted, everything will be automatically turned off because no one will then be able to pay the electricity bill.”
Nakad revealed on the “Lebanese Scene” program on “Al-Hurra” channel with the media, Layal Al-Ikhtyar, that the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Representative Gibran Bassil, told him that he is against Zahle Electricity and against any private companies and any concession and that he will work in every way to prevent him from working.
Nakad mentioned an account of a visit he made to Basil’s office, in which he said: Once, Minister Basil gave me an appointment to visit him, he was waiting for us, along with Kamal Hayek and the minister’s group in the office. Basil turned to me, saying, “It is strange that if it weren’t for the Syrians, I wouldn’t be here.” I replied, “If it weren’t for the Syrians, I wouldn’t be sitting here. The minister was angry.” Then he got angry and said, “God is with you.”
