The supported format for Android apps has always been APK. But suddenly Google made the decision to change the format to AAB. What is the AAB formula and what’s new in it?
Android has always stood out for its support for downloading and installing apps and games from outside the Store. In this way, users are aware of the APK format and what it is, unlike Apple’s iOS.
Any user can download and install any application on their phone without the need for a store. In addition, other phones that do not support the Play Store, such as Huawei phones, can access these applications as well.
These factors have made Android a popular platform because of the freedom it offers users. Regardless, it looks like Google is about to make major changes to the way apps work, changes that can be both negative and positive.
Difference between AAB and APK format
The format is the file type or extension, such as EXE for Windows or PNG for images. Several years ago, the Android apps and games format was APK, until Google announced the new format at the latest Google I/O conference.
APK stands for Android Application Package, which is Android Application Package. This type of file can be described as a zip file that contains hundreds of small files that make up the application.
Since this single file contains all the files in the application, it poses a serious problem in increasing the capacity and storage of the file itself. One of the obstacles faced by the application developer is forcing him to write application programs suitable for all devices and phones, and as a result the application space increases.
Google is developing the AAB format to solve all the problems in the current APK format, but Google itself will handle the app.
AAB stands for Android Application Package, which is the bundled Android Application Package. In the future, developers will develop their apps in this new format and then upload them to the store for later use.
Later, when the user downloads the application from the store, he does not download the entire application. Instead, it will download only the part needed to run the app for the first time, and it can later download the rest of the components when you start using it.
While this move is intended to serve users, it will negatively affect another segment of users. First, users of Huawei phones or any phones that do not support Google services. Second, Microsoft itself!
We have realized that the new AAB format will rely on Google services and Play Store, which will not be available to Huawei users, or Windows 11, which will rely on the Amazon Store and traditional APK apps.
