Egypt’s Olympic team won, Thursday evening, its South African counterpart, 2-0, in their friendly match that brought them together as part of the two teams’ preparations for the Tokyo Olympics. The two goals of the Egyptian national team, Mustafa Mohamed, a professional in the Turkish club Galatasaray, scored the first in the 16th minute with a header, after Ahmed Fattouh’s cross, and the second in the 53rd minute, from one-on-one after a pass from Fattouh as well.
The Egyptian Olympic team will meet with South Africa again, next Sunday, at Cairo Stadium, as part of the final preparations for the Tokyo Olympics. It is noteworthy that the football competitions in the Tokyo Olympics includes 4 groups.
The Egyptian national team is in Group C along with Spain, Argentina and Australia. South Africa is in Group A with Japan, Mexico and France. Group B includes: South Korea, Honduras, New Zealand, Romania. The fourth group also includes: Brazil, Germany, Côte d’Ivoire, Saudi Arabia.
The Olympic Games are scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8. Two teams from each group in the Olympics qualify for the quarter-finals, which will be held in a knockout system until reaching the final match.
