The newspaper added that the study was prepared in May 2020 by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, and was referred to by the State Department when it conducted an investigation into the origins of the virus during the last months of the rule of former US President Donald Trump.

Beijing rejects the hypothesis that the virus leaked from a virus laboratory in Wuhan, and in return it accused the United States of spreading “conspiracy” theories and politicizing the pandemic.
