Transshipment containers in Saudi ports increased by 14% during May

During the month of May 2021, Saudi ports achieved an increase in the total number of transshipment containers, an increase of 14.27%, by more than 242 thousand TEUs, while the total number of handling containers reached 592 thousand TEUs, and the tons of cargo handled reached 24 million tons.
According to the statistical indicator issued by the Saudi Ports Authority, the number of ships coming to Saudi ports increased during the past month, with an increase of 7.25% by 1,021 ships, and a remarkable increase in the total number of passengers was recorded, with an increase of 354%, by 44,000 passengers.
The Saudi ports also recorded another increase in the number of cars, with an increase of 6.20%, by more than 63 thousand cars, and the total number of livestock reached more than 163 thousand heads of live cattle, while the total foodstuffs amounted to more than 2 million tons.
This increase comes in line with the requirements of development, the national economy and the commercial movement in the Kingdom, as part of the continuous development processes that the General Authority of Ports is working on in the context of raising the level of operational and logistical performance, and raising the competitiveness of services provided to beneficiaries, in addition to raising the infrastructure and absorptive capacities in this vital sector.
It also comes in light of strategic partnerships with major international shipping lines, which contributes to strengthening the strength of linking the Kingdom’s ports with the ports of the East and West and increasing the volumes of handling in the ports.
