A new field for promoting Saudi heritage and folklore among young people, this time from Diriyah, the first historical capital of the country.
Where the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, in cooperation with the King Abdulaziz Foundation, launched the “Al-Diriyah … Bait Al-Ardah” program, which aims to teach young people how to perform the Saudi Arda dance and develop a spirit of pride and honor in the ancient history of their ancestors.
The “Saudi Arda” represents a dance of victory, glory and pride, and a symbol that reflects the history of Saudi Arabia and its glories. It was performed during wartime to show strength and an expression of joy in times of peace.
The first training course for the second edition was held at Prince Thenayan Palace in Al-Turaif neighborhood in Diriyah, and it is divided into two tracks: The first includes training courses offered to registrants, to educate and raise awareness of the arts of Saudi Arabia by the most skilled performers.
And the other track is the organization of the “Diriyah … Bait Al-Ardah” competition for those qualified from the training courses that were held in the first track. Participants and contestants are received for four sessions during the current year 2021, during which five applicants are nominated from each session until the final rounds to reach twenty nominated, and the participants must pass the courses according to the evaluation criteria specified by the jury, which include (flag, uniform, sword, drums, axis).
Al-Diriyah was famous for the mastery of this art by its people. Indeed, the Diriyah Band was present on most of the state’s occasions, since the unification of the country in 1932 until today. In the search for its depths, and the extent of its impact.
The Saudi Arda comes as an icon of the folklore for which the Najd region is famous and was inscribed in 2015 on the List of Intangible World Heritage by the International Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), in addition to the establishment of special schools to teach this folk dance, through which it aims to spread the culture of Arda among The new generation and rooting the spirit of their heritage.
