The Duchess of Sussex has given birth to a daughter, Lillibet “Lily” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, after Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke’s mother, Princess Diana, who died in 1997.
Birth of Lilibet
The baby girl of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. at Santa Barbara Country Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. Weighing 3 and a half kilograms, the mother and child are in good health and are settled at home. She is the sister of two-year-old Archie and the Queen’s eleventh granddaughter. She is the first to be born since the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in April.
“Lily” is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty “Elizabeth”, whose family surname is “Lilibet”. Her middle name, “Diana”, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, Princess of Wales Princess Diana.
The Duke and Duchess may have given their daughter her name in an attempt to build bridges with the royal family after the couple made a series of allegations against the company.
Lilibet’s meeting with her grandmother the queen
With the Sussex family living in California, it is unknown when or if Lilipet will meet the Queen and other members of the royal family.
Meghan and Harry thank you in a letter
In a thank you letter from Meghan and Harry on Archewell’s website, the Duke and Duchess said: “On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lily. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt from around the world. Thank you for your kindness and continued support during this very special time for our family.”
A statement issued by the press secretary said: “It is with great pleasure that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibit Lily Diana Mountbatten-Windsor to the world.”
New born baby congratulations
The Diana Award, established to continue the legacy of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, congratulated the Duke and Duchess on Twitter: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their daughter Lilibit Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. We extend our best wishes to the Duke, Duchess and little Archie.”
The Wellchild charity, which Harry sponsors, said: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lillibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. We wish our patrons the Duke and Duchess all the happiness as they embark on this new adventure.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted: “Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of their daughter.”
Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer said on Twitter: “Great news! Congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
Lilibet and Archie will be princes
Although Harry and Meghan quit their job as senior royals, Lillibet and Archie still hold a place in the line of succession.
The newborn baby will be entitled to be a princess and Archie a prince – both in their royal highness and style – after the queen dies and when Charles becomes king. This is because they would have risen in the line of succession to become the sons of the son of a king.
Lilibet in line for the throne
She is eighth in line to the throne, behind Archie, who is seventh in line, and ahead of the Duke of York, who is relegated to ninth.
Lillipet is also the cousin of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Charles’ fifth grandchild, but she will grow up across the Atlantic, thousands of miles from the royal family – at a time when heart and division within the royal family is breaking. Windsors.
