The Court of Appeal in the Saudi region of Tabuk ruled not to convict officials in a government agency on charges of squandering public funds that were directed against them earlier.

The appeal ruling is in support of the ruling of the Criminal Court, which previously ruled not to convict the officials of the charge against them by the Public Prosecution, which referred them to trial.

According to the Saudi newspaper, Sabq, lawyer Musaad Al-Saleh praised the ruling, stressing that “the rulings are issued by the judiciary according to what reassures him of the conviction or lack of conviction of the court after a careful examination of the evidence before it, and hearing the defense.”

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia applies deterrent penalties to embezzlers of public money, and in a step to confront corruption, the late Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud established, about 10 years ago, the National Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha).
