The Russian national team set a record negative in the European Cup, after its wide loss against its Belgian guest, yesterday, Saturday, in the opening matches of the second group of the continental championship in its 16th edition.
Romelu Lukaku scored two goals in the 10th and 88th minutes, and Thomas Meunier scored a goal in the 34th minute, as Belgium beat its host Russia by three goals.
With this loss, Russia suffered the biggest defeat for a European Cup host country in the tournament’s history.
The previous negative record was held by Belgium, France and Ukraine, who lost by two goals while hosting the continental tournament.
It is noteworthy that Belgium topped Group B with 3 points, after defeating Russia, ahead of Finland, which achieved the surprise by beating Denmark 1-0, in its first participation in a major tournament in its history.
