Daniel Medvedev and Alexander Zverev to the quarter-finals of the “Roland Garros” tournament, Roger Federer will not complete the competitions, and Serena Williams is eliminated from the final price.
Russian second seed Daniil Medvedev qualified for the quarter-finals of the “Roland Garros” tennis tournament, the second grand slam of the season, to play against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked fifth, after the first victory over Christian Garin 6-2, 6-1, 7 -5, and the second over Spaniard Pablo Carreno, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5.
Medvedev, who has not won a match at Roland Garros before this year, will meet Tsitsipas, who had qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament in the previous edition.
Also, Germany’s Alexander Zverev qualified for the quarter-finals by defeating Japan’s Kei Nishikori 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.
“I played unbelievably, I played a very good match but the tournament is not over yet,” Zverev said after his victory.
Federer will not continue the competitions
The Swiss Roger Federer, who was trying to recover after two knee surgeries that kept him out of action for a year, announced that he would not complete the Roland Garros competitions on the eve of his match in the final price against Italian Matteo Berrettini, according to the organizers.
Federer said he has had two knee surgeries and more than a year of rehab and needs time to recover.
Serena Williams was disappointed when she lost to Kazakh Elena Rybakina 6-3, 7-5 in the final.
Serena has not qualified for more than the fourth round at Roland Garros since losing the 2016 final.
On the other hand, this is the first time that Rybakina has qualified for the quarter-finals of a major tournament, where she will play against Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
For her part, Tamara Zidanchik also entered history after becoming the first Slovenian to qualify for the quarter-finals of a major tournament, defeating Romanian Cristia 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 in the fourth round.
Zidanchik will play in the quarter-finals against Spain’s Paula Padusa, who also reached this round for the first time, defeating Czech Marketa Vondrosova 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
