An official at Pfizer Inc. in Israel said today, Thursday, that the “Pfizer-Biontech” vaccine is highly effective in preventing the mutated Delta strain of the Corona virus.
Alon Rappaport, Pfizer’s medical director in Israel, told Israel Army Radio: “What we have now from the data we’ve collected through the research we’re doing in the lab, including data from places where the Indian Delta strain has replaced the British strain as the most prevalent strain, indicates that our vaccine is very effective.” By about 90%, in preventing Covid-19 disease caused by the Corona virus.”
The vaccination campaign in Israel is one of the most advanced in the world and is based mainly on the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine. Sharon Elroi-Price, head of the Public Health Services at the Ministry of Health, said that Israel does not yet have enough data to determine the effectiveness of the vaccine against the Delta strain.
She added, in statements to reporters, yesterday, Wednesday: “We are currently collecting data. We are now witnessing only the first cases of the delta strain in Israel, about 200 cases. So, we will know more soon.”
An analysis by Public Health England, where the Delta strain is more widespread, concluded that the Pfizer-Biontech and AstraZeneca vaccines protected by more than 90 percent the need for hospital treatment for people with this strain.
