origin of the name Lilibet

The baby girl was named “Lilibet” after the Queen’s family nickname “Elizabeth” but she would be known as “Li Li”. While her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales.

The newcomer is a younger sister to Archie born in 2019 and new cousin to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

A statement from the couple’s press secretary said: “It is with great pleasure that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilybet ‘Lily’, Diana Mountbatten-Windsor into the world.”

“The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”

Birth of Lilibet

Lilly was born on Friday, June 4th at 11.40am in the trusted care of doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Rural Hospital in Santa Barbara, California. She is the couple’s second child, and they also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Harry and Meghan reveal pregnancy news

Harry and Meghan revealed they were expecting a girl in March during a heartbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey. It was a lighter moment during a series of shelling that left the monarchy in crisis.

The newborn is the Queen’s eleventh grandchild – and poignantly the first since Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, died in April.

But with the Sussex family living in California and amid turbulent relationships with their family, it is not known when or if the newborn will meet the Queen and the rest of the royal family.

Despite resigning from the royal family, Harry has retained his place in the line of succession, so Lilipet will be eighth in line to the throne. The top seven are also unchanged – Prince of Wales, Duke of Cambridge, Prince “George”, Princess “Charlotte”, Prince “Louis”, “Harry”, “Archie”.
