The loose ivory dress worn by the late Princess Diana at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 is displayed in a new exhibition at her former home in London, among a group of dresses worn by women from the British royal family, according to “Reuters” news agency.
The exhibition highlights the work of designers and their clients from the royal family, and displays clothing designed for Queen Elizabeth the Mother, mother of the current Queen Elizabeth, and Princesses Margaret and Diana, as well as designs, scraps of fabric and photographs from the collection of ceremonial royal gowns.
One of the most eye-catching gowns was Princess Diana’s long taffeta and lace wedding dress with puffed sleeves and a train of more than seven meters. The dress, designed by David and Elizabeth Emmanuel, is borrowed from Diana’s two sons, Princes William and Harry.
There is also a rare initial design for the gown the Queen Mother wore at the coronation of King George VI in 1937.
Gallery curator Matthew Storey said one of his favorite exhibits was a blue and gold 18th-century gown by theater designer Oliver Maisel, which he designed for Princess Margaret. “She wore it to a masquerade ball at Mansion House in 1964 in support of her favorite charity, St John Ambulance.”
The exhibition opened its doors last week and runs until January, and is held at Kensington Palace, where Diana lived until her death in a car accident in Paris in 1997.
