A year after the turmoil within the British royal family and the separation of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle and the announcement of their retirement from royal life, the couple announced the birth of their daughter, Lillibit Diana.
They issued an official statement saying: “Lily has been named after her paternal grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, whose family name is Lilibet. Her middle name is Diana, chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales.”
The couple’s press secretary said on Sunday: “It is a pleasure that Prince Harry and Meghan are welcoming their baby girl, Lillibit… to the world.”
He added, “Lily was born on Friday, June 4, at 11:40 am, under the care of doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Hospital in Santa Barbara, California.”
Harry and Meghan said in a statement: “On the 4th of June, God bless us with the arrival of our daughter Lily. She is more beautiful than we could have imagined, and we are grateful for the love and prayers we have received from all over the world.”
“We thank you for your continued generosity and support during this very special period in our family’s life,” they added.
The press secretary assured the couple that the mother and daughter were in good health and had returned to their home.
