Porsche on the road to electric cars


Stuttgart (Germany) (dpa) – announced German car company Porsche Today, Sunday, it plans to begin production of high-performance battery cells on a limited scale with its partner.
Porsche said a battery factory is to be built in the greater Stuttgart region.
The planned plant will have a capacity of 100 megawatts per year, producing battery cells for 1,000 cars.
Production is scheduled to start in 2024. Porsche said it owns 83.75% of the shares in the “Silforce Group” project, while the rest is owned by Custom Sales, a subsidiary of the Fraunhofer Institute.
The company will make batteries for specific vehicles, such as racing cars or other special models.
Porsche added that it is investing tens of millions of euros in the new project, without adding further details.
Up to 80 people will be employed at the plant in Tübingen by 2025. More details are expected at a press conference on Monday.
