Dr BB Tyagi from Ghaziabad told News18 that the first ever case of herpes simplex virus in India had been found. He described it as “extremely dangerous”, stressing that if there is a delay in treatment, this virus could be more deadly than Covid-19.

For its part, the Cedars Sinai Hospital website described the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) that causes stomatitis as follows: the appearance of a cold sore and fever as symptoms that appear on the patient.

Herpes is the cause of this irritating and often painful chronic condition. Herpes sores (lesions) usually last 1 week to 10 days and most often occur on the lips, tongue, roof of the mouth, or gums The sores first occur as fluid-filled blisters that burst (rupture) After 1 or 2 days, HSV-2 is often associated with genital herpes, however, both types of HSV can infect the mouth and genitals.

A person is infected with the herpes simplex virus for the rest of their life, when the virus is not active, it is dormant in a group of nerve cells, and some people never have any symptoms of the virus while others have periodic outbreaks of infection.

According to a report in Business Standard, reactivation of a herpes infection leads to hair loss, and many recovering COVID-19 patients face skin or other complications due to reduced immunity.
