With this step, the company aims to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2036.
“We are working on a prototype and plan to test a hydrogen fuel-cell version of the SUV in 2021,” the British company said.
The new car combines fuel cells between hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity without combustion, and electricity generated from hydrogen is used to power the electric motor.
Jaguar added: “Fuel cells enable rapid refueling and have a high energy density; This makes it ideal for larger and longer range vehicles.”
These compounds work well in cold environments, according to the company.
The company called its prototype “Project Zeus”.
This model comes with partial funding from the British government in the hope of developing fuel cell cars that can provide the same performance and capacity, and in a way that reduces carbon emissions.
