Italy qualified for the round of 16 of the Euro 2020 tournament after defeating its Swiss counterpart 3-0 in the second round of the group stage.
The match, which was held at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, witnessed a clear advantage for the Italian national team throughout the ninety minutes, and that advantage was translated into the progress of the Azzurri in the first half through Manuel Locatelli in the 26th minute.
With the start of the second half and the hope of Switzerland to return in the match, the star of Sassuolo Locatelli returned again and scored the second goal and practically killed the match in the 51st minute.
Top scorer Ciro Immobile refused to leave the match without making his mark, and scored the third goal in the 89th minute and shared the tournament’s top scorer with Cristiano Ronaldo.
For the same group, Wales won a clean double over Turkey in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, in a match in which Gareth Bale missed a penalty kick in a way that sparked ridicule after sending the ball to the stands.
In this case, Italy secured qualification to the round of 16 by reaching the sixth point, while Wales came in second place with four points, and Switzerland in third place with a point, with Turkey at the bottom of the standings without credit.
It is worth noting that the Russian team ignited the second group after also winning on Wednesday evening against Finland with a clean goal, to share the runner-up with the Scandinavian country until the match between Denmark and Belgium expected tomorrow.
