Italy player Pellegrini injured before the Euros

The Italian Football Association said on Thursday that it had asked the European Football Association (UEFA) to allow Fiorentina’s Gaetano Castrovilli to join the Italian national team participating in the European Championship 2020, instead of Lorenzo Pellegrini, the Roma midfielder, who suffered an injury before the start of the continental championship.

Pellegrini was injured during the team’s training yesterday, Wednesday, while he was trying to regain his full fitness before the start of the tournament.

“The Italian Football Association has submitted a request to UEFA regarding the possibility of replacing Lorenzo Pellegrini, who suffered an injury during training yesterday,” the Italian Football Federation said in a statement.

“He went to undergo a radiological examination this morning and will remain with the group that will travel to Rome this morning,” the statement added.

Italy will meet at home in the Olympic Stadium in the capital with the Turkish national team in the first match of the tournament on Friday.
