Madrid: The young generation of the Spanish national team dreams of achieving an achievement in the European Cup in football and snatching a record fourth title, but first it must overcome a fifth group that includes Poland, its top scorer Robert Lewandowski and a talented Swedish squad.

After nearly a decade of a beautiful saga, which was the European Cup 2008 and 2012 and the 2010 World Cup, is it time for “La Roja” to return to the top again?

With coach Luis Enrique, the former champion with Barcelona and a lot of talent, Spain is in the finals among the contenders for the title.

Since returning to coach the Reds in November 2019, after a months-long absence following the death of his ailing daughter, Khanna, at the age of nine, there was time for Enrique to release and test some promising.

Until the last window in March, the former Barcelona and Real Madrid midfielder tried to make some adjustments to his squad that swept Germany 6-0 in the UEFA Nations League last November.

His mission revolves around giving the team a clear identity in light of the large number of young people in its ranks who lack the identity of the leader, such as Pedri (18 years), Eric Garcia (20), Ferran Torres (21), Unai Simon (23), Pau Torres (24), Adama Traore (25) and Marcos Llorente (26). All of them did not play more than 10 international matches.

The absence of the ancient Real

It is remarkable that for the first time in the history of Spain, it participates in a major tournament and does not include any player from the ancient Real Madrid.

The most notable absence is Real’s defense captain Sergio Ramos, who suffered frequent injuries last season and who did not receive the honor of being called up by Enrique.

In the absence of Ramos, the center of defense, Aymeric Laporte, may have the opportunity to show himself, knowing that the Manchester City defender preferred the Spanish national team after representing France for the age groups, and Didier Deschamps, the coach of the first team, called him twice without pushing him. He obtained Spanish citizenship at the end of May and joined the national team a few days ago to prepare for the European Cup.

Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets will also be absent after contracting the Corona virus on the eve of the finals.

La Cartuja Stadium

Spain will play its three matches in the first round at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, which replaced the Basque Bilbao, which was deprived of the honor of hosting due to the Corona virus protocol.

Spain is participating for the tenth time in the finals, and won the title three times in 1964, 2008 and 2012, a record they share with Germany.

In the last edition, it was eliminated from the round of 16, similar to the World Cup in Russia in 2018.
