England midfielder Jordan Henderson says the fans’ boos against players’ kneeling behavior before kick-off proves that racism is still a problem and that his country will continue to behave like this during the European Championship.
A small group of fans booed at Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough as players knelt before friendlies against Austria and Romania earlier this month.
“It shows that if there are still people booing us for coming together against racism, this remains a problem and we must continue to fight it and stand together,” Henderson said before England start their European campaign against Croatia on Sunday.
“This may also indicate that this fight must continue,” he added. For our part, it is about coming together and doing what we think is right.”
