Facebook plans to release a smartwatch with two cameras

Facebook is taking a fresh approach to its first smartwatch, which the company has not publicly confirmed but is currently planning to launch next summer.

According to the information, the device has a screen with two cameras that can be separated from the wrist to take photos and videos that can be shared across the Facebook suite of applications, including Instagram.

The camera on the front of the watch screen is mainly located for making video calls. While the 1080p autofocus camera on the back can be used to capture shots when separated from the stainless steel frame on the wrist.

And Facebook is exploiting other companies to create accessories to attach the camera hub to things like backpacks.

The idea is to encourage watch owners to use it in ways similar to how smartphones are now used.

This watch is part of Mark Zuckerberg’s plan to build more consumer devices beyond Apple and Google, which largely control Facebook’s ability to reach people.

This new device is Facebook’s first experiment in the field of wrist devices, opening up another avenue of competition with Apple at a time when the two tech giants were at opposite ends on other fronts.

Apple has positioned itself as a privacy protector by limiting the types of data that apps like Facebook can collect.

For years, Facebook has surrounded itself with scandals over its handling of user data.

This dynamic could create an uphill battle for Facebook to get people to buy its watch, especially since it also plans to position the watch as a fitness device with a heart rate monitor.

Facebook wants a smartwatch:

Facebook is working with the largest wireless carriers in the US to support LTE connectivity per hour, which means they won’t need to pair it with a work phone and sell it in their stores.

AndIn future versions of the watch, Facebook plans to serve as the main input device for its planned augmented reality glasses.

Zuckerberg believes that augmented reality glasses will one day be as ubiquitous as mobile phones.

The company plans to use technology obtained from CTRL Laboratories, a startup that has proven that armbands can control a computer with wrist movements.

Facebook aims to release the first version of the watch in the summer of 2022. It is working on the second and third generations for subsequent years.

Staff recently discussed pricing the device at around $400, but the price point may change.

And Facebook can cancel the watch, because the device has not yet entered mass production or even been given an official name.

Facebook’s interest in building a smartwatch goes back at least a few years. I considered acquiring Fitbit in 2019 before Google bought it.

Since then, the social network has spent nearly $1 billion developing the first version of its watch. And it has hundreds of people working on this effort.

With a customized version of the Android operating system, Facebook plans to rely on a suite of third-party apps and partnerships to create compelling watch experiences.

However, the Facebook wearable device is not guaranteed. Smartwatches with cameras have so far failed to catch up.
