ABU DHABI, June 7 / WAM / Today, Tuesday, our national judoka, Victor Skritov, who won the bronze medal in the under-73 kg championship in the Asian and Oceania Grand Judo Championships last April, and the bronze in the Russian Grand Slam championship, will compete with the Portuguese player Fernando Joao. The 21-year-old won the European Youth Championship in Prague 2019, as part of the preliminary round matches of the World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The weight category under 73 kg includes 62 players, including 5 players from Arab teams, namely the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and Algeria. Our player Victor occupies the tenth place in the ranking of that category, which is led by the Japanese Hashimto, who is ranked first in the world, while Victor occupies the nineteenth place in the world in this weight, which gives the group competitions a competitive strength, as there are 6 players among the top 10 in the world.
The qualifiers for that group will continue until five o’clock tomorrow evening, Budapest time, to be followed by the awarding ceremonies. The first day’s round saw Japan lead with gold and silver, while Russia came in second with a gold medal.
Our player Victor has prepared well for the tournament under the supervision of his Maldivian coach Pakal Vyasislav, because the world championship is the conclusion of his preparations and his colleague Ivan Rima Rinko to participate in the Tokyo Olympic Games, which will be held from July 23 to August 8, 2021 in the hospitality of Japan.
