Disappointing study on the possibility of living outside the planet

A team of astronomers discovered that although there are 4,422 planets outside the solar system, very few of them are habitable, based on an assessment of the phenomenon of "photosynthesis", which is the use of sunlight, water and carbon dioxide by plants to produce oxygen.

<p>According to a report by Forbes magazine published on Thursday, June 24, 2021, despite the confirmation of a research paper published last year, the possibility of the presence of 300 million planets in our galaxy, which may be habitable, but new research published its results in the Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society, denied this. .

According to the new research, “photosynthesis” was critical in enabling the complex biosphere of the type found on Earth, and the possibility of a planet outside the solar system suitable for life, thus means the possibility of developing an atmosphere based on oxygen.

The team of scientists supervising the study stated that the “James Webb” space telescope, which is scheduled to be launched later this year, will enable scientists to study the atmospheres of other planets, and the light coming from the atmosphere will reveal the gases that they contain, adding that the planets that have a temperature close to Half as hot as our sun, it can’t maintain the Earth’s biosphere, because it doesn’t provide enough energy in the correct wavelength range. This does not mean that “photosynthesis” will be possible, but that there will not be enough plant life on the planet, to maintain an Earth-like biosphere.

According to Professor Giovanni Covoni from the University of Naples, “Given that red dwarfs are the most common type of star in our galaxy, this result suggests that Earth-like conditions on other planets may be less common than we might hope.”
