The Spanish national team announced on Wednesday that the result of defender Diego Llorente was positive with Covid-19, five days before the start of the team’s campaign in the European Football Championship 2020.
Spain captain Sergio Busquets tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday, and Spanish federation president Luis Rubiales warned of possible new cases.
The Spanish Federation confirmed that the injured players had left the national team camp, while the rest of the squad continued to prepare for the continental championship.
The players and coaching staff immediately went into isolation after Busquets’ positive condition on Sunday, prompting the under-21 team and the team coach to play a friendly match against Lithuania on Tuesday and Spain won 4-0.
Spain will play Sweden in the opening match of Group E of the European Championship next Monday.
After Busquets was injured, Spain called up six players, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, Raul Albiol, Carlos Soler, Brice Mendes, Pablo Fornals and Rodrigo Moreno, to form a parallel training bubble so that they can be selected in case of need.
And Spanish Sports Minister Jose Manuel Rodriguez Oribes announced on Tuesday that all national team players will be vaccinated on Wednesday.
