The Spanish Football Federation announced the exclusion of Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets from the camp of the “La Roja” team, which is preparing for the Euro 2020 tournament.”We regret to announce that the captain of the national team, Sergio Busquets, tested positive, which was carried out this morning (yesterday) at the team’s camp in Las Rojas… knowing that the rest of the team’s and the technical staff’s smears were negative,” the Spanish Federation said in a statement.
The statement added: “The medical services of the Spanish Federation have taken all necessary measures in this case, in accordance with the protocols established by the Ministry of Health and the European Football Association, as the player left the camp in a medical car.”
He continued, “The appropriate sporting measures will be evaluated soon, depending on the development of the national team captain’s condition.”
There are fears that the player may have transmitted the infection to some of his colleagues, which the next swabs will reveal to all those in the “La Roja” camp.
According to the medical protocol of the European Football Association (UEFA), the Spanish national team will be completely isolated in the coming days, which means the cancellation of its friendly match, tomorrow, Tuesday, which would have brought it together with its Lithuanian counterpart, with the under-21 youth team playing the match instead.
