After spending a year on the “bench” and not racing, Ocon joined Renault/Alpine last year, maintaining his complexion next season with 2005 and 2006 world champion Fernando Alonso.

On the sidelines of the French Grand Prix, home of Ocon and Albin, the latter announced in an official statement that he had renewed his driver’s contract until 2024.

Commenting on this, Ocon said, “I am delighted to continue with the team beyond this season as it is great to secure my future with Albin. We have progressed well together since joining him and I am looking forward to continuing this journey together.”

“There are huge challenges ahead, especially with the new laws of 2022. I am sure that we can achieve our goals by working hard together,” he added.

After a grueling year in 2020, Ocon showed a marked improvement in his performance, beating Alonso on four of the six occasions so far in qualifying.

The French driver also managed to podium for the first time in his career at the Sakhir Grand Prix last year, which was a turning point in his career.

Commenting on this, he said, “I often think back to my podium at the Sakhir race last year to motivate me to score more results and similar memories.”

“I’m looking forward to the next chapter but for now our focus is on the current season and getting the most out of each race.”
