Iranian legend Ali Daei sent a special message to Cristiano Ronaldo, after the latter equaled his historic number of goals at the international level in Portugal’s match with France in the European Nations.
Ronaldo scored twice in the 2-2 draw with France to reach the 109th goal and equals Daei as the most international goalscorer.
What did Daei say about Ronaldo’s equation for his record?
The Iranian star wrote on his Instagram page: “Congratulations to Cristiano, who is one goal away from breaking the men’s record.”
“I feel proud that this special achievement will become the property of Ronaldo, a great football champion and a kind person,” he added.
“He continues to inspire humanity and influence the lives of people around the world,” Daei continued.
How did Ronaldo break Daei’s historical record?
The Portuguese star needed 178 matches with Portugal, with the goal of scoring 109 goals and reaching Daei’s record.
While Daei scored the same number of goals with Iran but from fewer matches, 145 matches.
Ronaldo can be alone in the number in the current European Championship after, as Portugal plays in the last sixteen against Belgium.
