Al-Rahi on the formation of the Lebanese government:

The head of the Maronite Church in Lebanon, Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, said that President Michel Aoun wants a government now, considering that “we do not need a wide dialogue table, we want a solution, we are dead.”

In a statement from Baabda Palace after his meeting with President Aoun, Al-Rahi said: “I visited the President of the Republic before going to Rome to meet the Pope, and we carry with us the yearning for Lebanon to preserve its position, value and privacy, and the Pope is keen on this matter.”

He stressed that it is the duty of Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri to meet around a table to form a government, noting that “we are striving with all our might to bring officials closer without entering into technology.”

He added: “The bitter Lebanese reality requires that we have a government, and there is no justification for there not being a government or agreement between the President of the Republic and the designated president,” stressing that “the government is above all considerations, and Lebanon is a country of dialogue, so dialogue must be made.”

Al-Rahi asked: “What prevents us from forming a government of poles? We hope that such a government will be formed so that we can get out of the situation we are in,” stressing that he does not accept that the two Christian ministers be called, and “my position in the Salvation Government includes non-partisan people, and I did not propose with the president a pole government.”
