It seems that Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the Spanish Super Cup will not be limited to the current 3-year contract.
The current contract between the Spanish Football Federation and the Saudi Ministry of Sports stipulated that the Kingdom would host the Spanish Super Cup from 2019 to 2021.
The Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported that Luis Rubiales, the Spanish Football Federation, reached an agreement to renew the partnership contract with the Saudi side, regarding the Kingdom’s hosting of the Super Cup competitions, until 2029.
According to the newspaper, the new agreement will require the Spanish Federation to receive 30 million euros annually in exchange for Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the Super Cup, until 2029.
It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia hosted one version of the Spanish Super Cup in its new form, in the year 2020, when the 2021 version was held in the Spanish city of Seville due to the repercussions of the outbreak of the Corona virus.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, the Saudi Minister of Sports, confirmed in recent statements to him that the Kingdom will continue to host the championship activities, in addition to other sports competitions, most notably the Italian Super and Formula 1 and Formula E car races, in addition to the Dakar Rally.
It is noteworthy that the Spanish Super in its current form began to be applied in the version hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2020, which stipulates the participation of 4 teams participating in a semi-final stage, and the winner of each match qualifies to the final.
The winning team and runner-up of the Spanish League will participate in the tournament, along with the King’s Cup champion and runner-up.
